Auntie’s Marathon

My auntie is fifty years old. One day, she told us she was going to run a marathon.

Everyone was very surprised. Auntie didn’t like exercise before, and she got tired after walking just a little bit. Dad laughed and said, “You? Run a marathon?”

Auntie didn’t get angry. She said, “Just wait and see.”

From that day on, Auntie got up at five o’clock every morning to run. The first week, she could only run a very short distance, and her legs hurt after running. But she didn’t stop.

Slowly, she could run farther and farther. After three months, she could run ten kilometers. After half a year, she could run twenty kilometers.

On the day of the race, we all went to watch her. The weather was very hot, and the road was very long. We saw Auntie running very slowly, but she kept running and didn’t stop.

Finally, Auntie finished. She was both tired and happy, and there were tears in her eyes.

Dad walked over and said to her, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed at you before. You’re really amazing.”

Auntie smiled. “It’s never too late to start.”
